Attending an international middle school in Tokyo brings a lot more responsibility for students. Students are expected to keep track of more assignments, remember deadlines, manage materials, and communicate with different teachers. International middle school teachers also expect students to take more responsibility for their own learning. If a student receives a low mark on a test, teachers expect their students to know how to approach the teacher themselves, or ask their teacher for help to review their mistakes.

These might seem like small things. But they are the everyday skills that help students become more independent. For some middle students at international schools in Tokyo, these time management and organizational skills come naturally and for others, the actual academic work itself isn't the biggest problem. They know the material, but they haven't yet learned how to manage everything that comes with being a more independent student. That's why we developed our Study Skills Program for international middle school students in Tokyo. Our Study Skills Program focuses on practical skills such as advocating for yourself, managing your time, organizing tasks, communicating with teachers, and taking responsibility for your own learning.

Your child doesn't need to wait until they are overwhelmed to learn these skills.

Book a free 15-minute consultation and let's talk about how we can help your child become a more independent student. Kinota Braithwaite - Learning & Assessment Specialist
