Your child may be getting extra help at school, but you may still feel that something is not quite working.

Perhaps your child is struggling with reading, writing, or mathematics. Maybe they are working much harder on completing their work than you expected, becoming frustrated with schoolwork, or needing a lot of help to complete tasks that other children seem to manage more independently.

You have already asked their school what more can be done.

Many international schools in Tokyo have learning support teams and established policies for students who are experiencing learning difficulties. As part of that process, the school may recommend additional support or assessment outside of school.

The school may also recommend an educational assessment to get a more detailed picture of how your child learns. In some cases they also recommend outside support when a child needs more one-to-one attention than the school can provide during the school day.

That could mean tutoring, educational therapy, learning support, speech and language support, or an educational assessment.

Parents often come to me at this point. The school has identified a concern and has recommended looking for additional support. If your child needs additional help reach out Kinota Braithwaite - Learning & Assessment Specialist
