Questions we get from parents whose children attend international schools in Tokyo:

“My child speaks English fluently, but their reading isn't coming along as easily as I expected.”

“I don't want to wait until they fall behind.”

So Mr. Braithwaite, what do we do?

Well, first, we don't panic or stress the child out.

We have a look at their reading skills. This starts with a reading assessment, which I know can sound a little scary to most parents, but we can learn a lot about your child from it.

It doesn't feel like a formal test.

I'm sitting with your child, doing letter games, doing fun writing and spelling activities, and seeing what they can do.

Most children don't even realize they're being assessed.

They usually finish the session and say, “Hey, that was fun!” If you child needs reading or math support contact.
