I’m super excited to start a new school year with my students.

And this year, I’m back in school myself.

I’m completing the Instructional Leadership program at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where I’m studying teacher leadership and how educators can improve their practice.

You might be thinking, “Kinota, why do you need to study at Harvard to teach a four-year-old their numbers or help them learn to read?”

Fair question. It is a bit much, don't you think?

But I’ve always believed that if we ask our students to keep learning, to work through challenges, and to strive for excellence, we should be willing to do the same ourselves.

Learning to read, write, and compute gives children skills they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. I take that responsibility seriously.

And when my students succeed, believe me, I get a BIG smile too.

I’ve had the same philosophy since day one:

Don’t ask students to reach for excellence unless you are willing to do the work yourself.

Let’s go, new school year! Kinota Braithwaite - Learning & Assessment Specialist
